The Importance Of Allergen Free Prescription

By Carl Meyer

Anything that triggers allergic reaction is termed an allergen. This happens when the affected individual comes in contact with an alien substance to the human system called an allergen, which is harmless to many people. If allergen free prescription is not used, the situation negatively affects day-to-day life which results in disturbed sleep, fatigue, poor performance at work and absenteeism at school. It also has an impact on leisure or everyday activities and social relations.

People suffer allergies as a result of an over reaction of the immune system. The reaction takes place in two phases. The first phase is the sensitization phase. Upon initial contact with the thing that trigger an allergy, the immune system considers that thing as an enemy substance.

The cells in the immune system microphages and lymphocytes interact. Lymphocytes produce antibodies specific to the 'alien' substance which binds to other cells know as mast cells. These mast cells are then sensitized to the allergen.

For the second part, there is a reaction when the foreign body or substance comes into contact once again. Since the mast cell has encountered that foreign substance before, it immediately recognizes it and prepare the organs and processes within the system by producing inflammatory substances to provide resistance to infections and toxins. The produced inflammatory substances are what trigger allergy symptoms.

Certain symptoms show during allergic reactions. Symptoms which can occur individually or together are skin rashes, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing difficulties, swollen lips, tongue and throat. The allergic reaction can be so severe that it becomes life threatening to the one who is affected, due to an allergic shock for example.

Respiratory allergy is an inherited progressive chronic ailment that when it is not medically handled well, worsens. Those sensitive to substances that cause allergic reaction, often become gradually sensitive to other allergens. For instance, allergic rhinitis could lead to the beginning of asthma.

It is possible to modify allergic reactions. There are two forms of treatments for allergic conditions. Symptomatic treatment is prescribed as first line of treatment to get rid of symptoms. The second one is allergy immunotherapy, also termed desensitization.

The treatments reduce allergy symptoms or cause them to disappear all together. The right prescriptions can also prevent sensitization to other allergens and the onset of other diseases like asthma because they act directly on the cause. The prescriptions offer a long lasting effect, but only allergy specialist can prescribe the most appropriate remedies on the basis of the patient's allergy assessment.

You can help by going for the treatments at the right time. In the case of seasonal allergies, such as pollen allergy, the treatment can be started a few months before the start of the pollen season and continue during the pollen season. The treatment can then be discontinued and started again a year after following the same protocol.

For the perennial ones, such as that related to animal hair, might, or dust, it's possible to begin the treatment within the year, and continue throughout the year. These treatments work directly on the foundation of ailment to reduce or do away with allergy symptoms, from the initial few weeks and improve the life of sufferers.
