By Ida Dorsey

The treatment of types 1 and 2 diabetes starts with exercise and diet. However, it is never really about what one eats. The most important thing is to eat a well balanced diet and be sure that the body is well fueled. Going to the gym to exercise may not be the most important thing either, one just needs to get into good physical shape, set health goals for nutrition and weight and increase activity. Diabetes treatment in the Woodlands involves various options.

When one has a well balanced diet that is combined with exercising, the body will work very efficiently. In some of the cases, change in diet or exercise patterns should be sufficient to take extra stress from the pancreas. When this happens, the disease can be completely brought under some sort of control. In some other cases, exercising and the right diet will bring levels of glucose under better control. These are then supplemented with drug therapies.

The diet of a diabetic is broken down in various proportions; 20 percent of proteins, 50 percent carbohydrates and fats at less than 30 percent. It is important to be crucial; one needs to eat regularly and with some level of consistency. Eating times should not be delayed as it would drastically affect level of glucose in the blood. If one was to overindulge, the very same effects would be experienced.

It is okay of one has the same meals as other family members as long as they choose them very carefully. Balancing of the foods is an important consideration. The foods should have vegetables, fruits, lean meat, magnesium and fish in ample amounts. Unsaturated fats in oils are better than saturated ones found in butter.

The individual does not need to entirely keep off sugary foods such as baked foods. To the contrary, they should be reserved for special occasions and thus need to be consumed moderately. As concerns exercise, about 30 minutes of aerobic exercise every day would be fine. Among the many effects of exercise on the body, it will increase ability to control blood glucose levels. Fortunately, exercising does not need very many resources.

Ideally, maximum benefits are gotten when one indulges in prolonged and intensive activity. However, it also benefits one greatly by taking part in not so intense exercises that are in small amounts. Any change of patterns of exercising needs to be done carefully since such sudden change destabilizes sugar levels. During the start of exercising, glucose levels need constant monitoring to determine the response of the body to increased activity.

Some medications are useful in management of glucose levels. With these medicines, the pancreas is informed to produce more insulin. Alternatively, the cells will receive impulses to have a better response to insulin. Increase of insulin levels does not however totally solve the problem. It will work temporarily.

The pancreas wears out fast with the use of medicines. Thereafter, injections of insulin will be needed. Important to remember is the fact that medications only cannot solve the problem in totality.
